[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″ offset=”vc_col-lg-6 vc_col-xs-1″][vc_images_carousel images=”224,222″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self” mode=”horizontal” speed=”5000″ slides_per_view=”1″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes” img_size=”432×243″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]White Pine, Pinus strobus, is the Arboretum’s Space Shuttle Tree because it took a trip to space with NASA astronaut Dr. Greg Linteris!  A brainchild experiment of Ray Cywinski, recent President of the NJ Shade Tree Fedreation and Dr. Linteris, the idea was to see the effect of space travel on the seeds of trees. Our Space Shuttle tree is one of about 200 in NJ and being tracked to see growth and other health factors.  Normally, over 100′ tall, let’s help watch.

Look for our Space Shuttle Tree (White Pine) near the north end of the walkway (just before the stores toward New Milford Avenue).

The Dumont Shade Tree Commission also celebrated Arbor Day in 2019 by planting a White Pine. Look for this younger White Pine near the center not too far from a soaring red oak at the curb line.
