The Dumont Shade Tree Commission has a HERITAGE TREE! As part of the ongoing effort to catalog all the heritage trees in Dumont we conducted a contest involving the 6th grade science classes in Honiss and Selzer School. The challenge was to find Dumont’s Champion Trees. Prizes were awarded for the discovery of the largest trees of a particular species; silver maple(Ralph Williams), white pine (Courtney Wagner), cottonwood (Theodore H. Salgado) and mulberry (Marilyn Hashway). We are proud to announce that the CHAMPION HERITAGE TREE, a black oak on Seminole Ave, was identified by Selzer School sixth grader Donald Wagner. For his great detective work Donald received a $100 prize.
